For some people, the morning commute is the bane of their life. More than this, it’s also
environmentally damaging. According to Pow Wow Now, 45% of employees face an hour long
commute every day or more. That’s 10 hours per week, 520 hours per year. People just over 21
days every year to a commute – a crazy thing to consider. Of course, with remote working, your
team’s commute will be around 30 seconds – simply the walk from bed to the desk.
3. More Common Than You Think…
The Office of National Statistics have published a report stating that the number of employees in
the UK who have begun working from home has increased by nearly a quarter of a million over
the last decade. We think the crisis we currently find ourselves in will leave an impact on remote
working in the sense that once the pieces are in place – many companies may decide to
continue with remote working.
4. Less Distraction
In a Flexjobs survey, it was found that 75% of people who are working from home are doing so
because they experience less distractions. You’d think there are more distractions at home, but
when you stop to think about the office environment – it is an extremely distracting place to be.
Whether it’s the phone ringing, chats about last night’s Game of Thrones episode or the hourly
“Shall we pop the kettle on?” from the team.
5. Improves Hiring
For some people, the promise of remote working is what would entice them to a position. In fact,
a recent report suggests that as much as 70% of employees would feel that the promise of
flexible working makes a job more attractive. More than this, with a strong remote working setup
(we’ll get to that in a minute!) also allows you to break down geographical boundaries when it
comes to hiring. You’re more likely to find great people if you can hire someone who lives in
anywhere in the UK, as opposed to just in your town!
